November 2015

UK retail sales dropped

Published: Thursday 19 November 2015

UK retail sales dropped more than expected in October, falling 0.6% compared to September (when sales were up 1.7% due to the impact of the Rugby World Cup).
Whilst this data is disappointing and has weighed on the pound, the underlying trend is still re-assuring as reflected by a 0.9% increase in sales over the 3 month period to Oct compared with the previous 3 months.  So hopefully the disappointing figure will be a blip.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Black Friday (27th Nov) and whether retailers feel the need to cut prices as aggressively as last year as consumers are largely in a better position this year.
