Most Popular H-1B Visa Destinations Revealed

Published: Tuesday 07 April 2015

A new report released last Thursday reveals that in 2013 New York was the most popular US city for workers in the country on H-1B visas. According to the Brookings Institute, 29,161 H-1B visas holders were based in New York (11.4 per cent of the total), placing it ahead of Dallas, Texas (7.7 per cent of the total share) and San Jose, California (6.2 per cent). Applications for H-1B visas for the 2016 Fiscal Year went live on 1st April. However, the 85,000 cap for this visa is likely to be reached in the next day or two (The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service received 172,500 applications within a week of the application period being opened). Once the cap is reached, a further 55,000 H-1B visas will be awarded via a Diversity Visa Lottery system open only to countries which are deemed to have historically low rates of immigration to the United States.
